We also continued our long-standing association between T.J. Maxx and the Save the Children (pictured) U.S. program, through which we sponsor over 600 children. In addition, the strong relationship between Marshalls and the Family Violence Prevention Fund continued to be a major focus. (Pictured is the first annual Women-In-Comedy event, sponsored by Marshalls, to raise funds to prevent family violence.) Through our active associate relations departments, in conjunction with our event marketing departments as well as The TJX Foundation, our associates volunteered in many events to raise monies for charitable causes during 1998. (Pictured are T.J. Maxx associates manning the phones at the WGBH telethon and, on page 13, Marshalls associates taking part in the Walk to Cure Diabetes for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.)

At Winners Apparel Ltd., in Canada, and at T.K. Maxx in the U.K. and Ireland, we are continuing the TJX tradition of supporting children’s causes. In 1999, Winners will support The Sunshine Foundation’s Adopt-a-Dream program. At T.K. Maxx, we continue our important work with the NCH Action for Children Organization.

We believe the rewards of our involvement with the communities in which we have a retail, distribution center or home office presence cannot be measured in terms of dollars and cents. The goodwill that we create goes far beyond a monetary benefit. We are convinced that we are better for our commitment to our customers, associates and communities, both as a corporation and as the individuals who comprise The TJX Companies.
