Community Outreach

The TJX Companies, Inc. prides itself on being a responsive, caring and involved community partner. Because we believe in being a good neighbor, much of our support goes to the communities in which our Stores, Home Offices and Distribution Centers are located.

The TJX Foundation and Corporate Giving

In 2007, the Company contributed to more than 1,800 nonprofit organizations worldwide. Both The TJX Foundation and the Company's operating divisions focus on charities that help children and families, aid education, assist the disadvantaged and support battered women and families. We donate our time, energy and financial support in a variety of ways that include in-store donation programs, sponsored events, volunteerism and charitable contributions. Our Associate participation in The United Way campaign reached 34,000 in 2007.

Community Relief Efforts

Our giving also extends to the community at large. Through our support of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay, The TJX Companies, Inc. has provided funding for a variety of relief efforts, including the Red Cross food pantry. The TJX Companies, Inc. also provides funding for the Oil Heat Fund, which helps needy residents of Massachusetts.

The Welfare-to-Work Program

The TJX Companies, Inc. has been a trailblazer and leader in the national Welfare-to-Work program. In 2007, we reached the 70,000 mark in hirings through this program. Our program has been extremely successful, and we have set the bar for other corporations to follow in establishing their own Welfare-to-Work programs. In addition to hiring individuals from the welfare rolls, The TJX Companies, Inc. has succeeded in creating programs to help these individuals make the difficult transition between receiving public assistance and entering the workforce. First Step, one such program, was developed by The TJX Companies, Inc. and, through a partnership with Goodwill Industries, helps individuals with transportation, child care and counseling. Further, The TJX Companies, Inc. has been active in helping other companies establish similar programs of their own.

Together, our Company and our Associates have made a positive difference in the communities where we operate and are committed to continuing our work. The rewards that each of us receives for our effort are immeasurable.
