Guinness Record Set For Charity


From the largest food drive in 24 hours (559,885 pounds) to the creation of the largest smoothie (825 gallons), a portion of which benefitted a homeless shelter in Canada, incredible people with unique talents, attributes, and passions have earned Guinness World Records for over 60 years. We are incredibly proud to announce that our Associates at TJX Canada have also been named "Officially Amazing" by the world's authority on record breaking, for their efforts to honor The Sunshine Foundation of Canada.

More than 700 Associates, joined by Sunshine Alum and staff members, formed the "Largest Human Image of a Sun" on June 21, 2017 – the longest day of sunshine of the year – to celebrate the division's long-time support of The Sunshine Foundation of Canada. The record was officially recognized by Guinness at the end of 2017.

For more than 20 years, Winners and HomeSense have been proud supporters of The Sunshine Foundation of Canada, a national charity that fulfills dreams for children living with severe physical disabilities or life-threatening illnesses. The effort to break the Guinness World Record was symbolic of the organization's work in breaking barriers for these children to believe in the power of their dreams.

In the parking lot of our TJX home office building in Ontario, the group of 769 donned yellow and orange t-shirts and hats and formed a 100 foot by 100 foot sun, filling in a shape that had been drawn on the pavement.

The 90-minute event culminated with Sunshine alumnus, Nathan, and his mother, Lynn, being the last two to take their positions within one of the sun's rays. After holding the sun image in place for the five minutes required by Guinness World Records, participants celebrated by throwing their hats into the air.

The colorful image in the likeness of Sunshine's sun logo helped raise awareness of the charity as well as helped to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
