SUPPORTING OUR FOOD BANKS

Across the U.S., more than 15 million households struggle to put food on the table every day.1 At TJX, we are committed to helping vulnerable families and children access the resources and opportunities they need to build a better future. One of the ways we help is by supporting hunger relief organizations like Feeding America.

Since 2015, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods have teamed up to raise money for Feeding America food banks one weekend in November. Sierra and Homesense joined the effort in 2017. Thanks to generous in-store donations from our customers, together with a donation from The TJX Foundation, the campaign in 2018 allowed us to provide more than $2.5 million to support food banks across the country. As a result, we helped provide over 27 million meals2 to people in need…from Spokane, Washington, to Dallas, Texas, to Auburn, Maine.

In addition to this November fundraising campaign, many TJX Associates are involved year-round in efforts to support hunger relief. By volunteering their time at local food banks and holding food drives at our distribution centers, stores, and corporate offices, our Associates champion the cause and make a hands-on difference. In all, through in-store fundraising, donations from The TJX Foundation and stores, local food drives, and volunteer work, we support more than 300 hunger relief organizations across the U.S. annually.

As a result of our November 2018 fundraiser, over 27 million meals were served to people in need.

One of the non-profit organizations that TJX collaborates with regularly is The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. Last year alone, The Greater Boston Food Bank distributed nearly 62 million pounds of food, enough to provide 51 million healthy meals. Each month, more than 140,000 people eat something from The Greater Boston Food Bank. The agency distributes food to 190 cities and towns across eastern Massachusetts through its more than 500 member agencies and 70 direct distribution sites, such as food pantries, community meal programs, shelters, and GBFB Mobile Markets.

“In Eastern Massachusetts, nearly half a million people struggle day-to-day to have enough to eat,” said Catherine D’Amato, president and CEO of The Greater Boston Food Bank. “TJX’s support this year has had a direct impact, enabling us to provide nearly 270,000 healthy meals to those in need. We are grateful for their commitment to helping to end hunger in our community.”

TJX and its Associates work around the world to help end hunger. To learn more about our efforts in the U.S., Canada, and Europe, visit the Responsibility/Communities/Basic Needs section of tjx.com.
